Help

Start with your first photo.

Open images and folders

Drop images or a folder into the window, or use the File menu. Choose Open Folder to browse neighboring images. Opening a single file keeps browsing limited to that image until you open a folder. Opening another image from Finder or the File menu uses a separate window and preserves existing edits. You can edit and save without an extra folder-authorization prompt. macOS may still ask for access to protected locations.

Animations and SVGs

GIF, APNG, and animated WebP images play automatically, with playback controls below the image. Choose Edit Current Frame to create a separate PNG for erasing, cutout, translation, or compression while keeping the animation intact. View and zoom SVGs, or choose Convert to Image and a size to create an editable transparent PNG. Whole-animation AI processing or compression and SVG path editing are not supported.

Install and update

Click Download on the homepage to get the installer. Open the DMG and drag Peekpic into Applications. When an update is available, click the update button in the top right of the app and choose when to restart after downloading. Requires macOS 14 or later and an Apple Silicon Mac.

Save, Save As, and Export

Edits stay in the current session until saved. Save updates the original. Save As moves the document to a new file. Export creates a separate copy and keeps the current editing session. Closing or quitting with unsaved edits prompts you to save, discard, or cancel.

Keep backups of important originals. Undo and compression restoration are available during the current app session and are not a long-term backup.

Compression and conversion

Smart mode looks for smaller files with little visible difference. It may use lossy encoding and does not promise identical pixels. Replace Originals is selected by default and requires confirmation before running. Change the default save method to a copy or a selected folder in Settings → Export. Files that do not get smaller are kept. Compression has its own metadata and location options.

Supported images and limits

JPEG · PNG · HEIC / HEIF · TIFF · GIF · WebP · BMP

Animated and multipage files display their first frame or image. Multipage originals cannot be overwritten. Edited output does not promise 16-bit or HDR preservation. Very large images may be limited to a reduced preview without full-resolution editing.
